College Republicans

Fairfield University

The Fairfield University College Republicans Club is thrilled to get started on a great year! After the rough elections we endured in 2008, the club is ready to get involved both on campus and in the local area to spread conservative values throughout.  The Club has been honored to work with great candidates and to meet many important members of our community.  In the past, the Fairfield U College Republicans have gotten involved in campaigns for State Representatives, State Senators, and Congressmen.  The Club has also attended the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) down in Washington, D.C., and hopes to do so again this Spring.

This year, the Club is looking forward to the local races and preparing for the Senatorial and Congressional races coming up next year.  We have been asked to get involved with local races and we hope that our time and energy will go toward victories for the Republican Party.  The Club is also in touch with Republican Congressional candidates for Connecticut's 4th District and we are greatly looking forward to the 2010 races and getting involved there as much as possible.

So far this year, we have seen a very strong increase in Club interest; our turnout to the Our CT GOP event at Bravo was great, followed by a very successful first meeting.  At the meeting, we heard from State Senator Toni Boucher, Former State Senator and Congressional Candidate Rob Russo, Alexis Harrison from Our CT GOP, and Chris Russo, campaign manager for Trumbull First Selectman candidate Tim Herbst.  We were honored to host these guests and plan to support them in any way we can.  As the semester progresses, we are looking forward to getting involved with both the Connecticut Union of College Republicans and Our CT GOP and attending events with both.  The Club plans to hold a SoliderSocks drive on campus in the upcoming months, along with numerous fundraisers.  We hope that by getting involved in some local campaigns and with some local organizations, that the club can make a difference both on campus and in the community! Western Connecticut State University

Western Connecticut State Universiry RepublicansThe Western Connecticut State University College Republicans were founded in 2007 and are still going strong with over 50 members now in the fall semester of 2009. They have volunteered for local campaigns in Danbury, CT including Mayor Mark Boughton, state campaigns including Representative Giegler, and Senator Mclachlan, and the federal campaign of David Cappiello for Congress. We have held a "Rally Against the Stimulus" protest when Senator Dodd and Congressman Murphy visited campus, as well as hosted both Congressman Rob Simmons and State Senator Sam Caligiuri while they discussed their campaigns for U.S. Senate against Senator Chris Dodd.

This semester most of our efforts will be put into two local campaigns - Andrew Wetmore (a member of our club since 2008) is running for Danbury's zoning board and Derek B. Roy (our club President) is running for Danbury's Common Council in the 5th ward. Derek will be having a fundraiser with guest speakers Mayor Mark Boughton and Congressman Rob Simmons on October 11th in Ridgefield, CT.
